First look at Alien: Covenant reveals the return of Weyland-Yutani
It would be unusual to celebrate Alien Day without a smidgen of new intel about Ridley Scott's Alien: Covenant, and so Fox took the opportunity to drop the first snap from the next chapter in the xenomorphic saga. Feast your eyes on the pic below:
What? You weren't expecting a look at an actual alien, right? It might not dazzle us with those glistening double-jaws, but, upon closer examination this pic does reveal a few interesting tidbits. Most importantly, the return (or should we say beginning?) of Weyland-Yutani. It's expected that Weyland would sync up with Yutani, this being a sequel to Prometheus and all, and now we know that that union has taken place. What does this mean? For starters, more money for deep space exploration and depending on when the movie takes place - the possibility of seeing a Lance Henriksen cameo.
Onto the patch's insignia. It shows the colony ship name Covenant, along with a depiction of the ark of the covenant. In religious lore, the ark is said to contain two stone tablets listing the Ten Commandments, hence those two angels protecting its contents with their wings. It's got to make you wonder if it's all a big hint about what exactly the ship is carrying. The last time an Alien movie transported precious cargo, a ton of people woke up wearing facehuggers.
Directed by Ridley Scott and starring Katherine Waterston, Michael Fassbender, Demian Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Jussie Smollett, Amy Seimetz, Callie Hernandez and Danny McBride, Alien: Covenant will open in the US on October 6, with a UK debut date still to be determined.
