First look at Alpha 5 in the Power Rangers movie is... something
The Power Rangers movie is evoking a mixed bag of responses based on its early images and trailer. Prepare for more, folks, as the first glimpse of the Rangers' and Zordon's robotic assistant Alpha 5 is here! Here's a batch of concept art of the character, courtesy of IGN:
With reactions to most of the movie's promo material landing in the "mmmm, interesting" column, the new look for Alpha 5 will likely do exactly the same. If you weren't sold on the Rangers' fancy new outfits, or Rita Repulsa's metallic green get-up, then the chances are you might now be feeling a similar sense of "WTF?"
The original look for Alpha 5 in the show was straightforward enough: man in a suit, with a headpiece like a CD player. Simple, kitschy '90s brilliance. As all things must change in the land of movie adaptations, he now resembles a pudgy, half-alien, half-bot creation. He's still retained his saucer-shaped head and a darker red colour scheme though, both nods to the original.
Directed by Dean Israelite and starring Naomi Scott, Dacre Montgomery, RJ Cyler, Ludi Lin, and Elizabeth Banks, the Power Rangers movie will be released in UK and US cinemas on March 24, 2017.
