Following hot on the heels of the first official image of Chris Pine as Jack Ryan , comes a new still featuring Kevin Costner as the younger man's trainer and handler.
Costner stars as William Harper, a former military man charged with recruiting and training Ryan, and he looks every inch the badass here, sporting a pair of wraparound shades and some heavy-duty body armour.
Costner's character may not be restricted to Kenneth Branagh's franchise reboot, with Harper also likely to crop up in Chris McQuarrie's Without Remorse , and Costner currently in discussions to reprise the role.
Without Remorse will focus upon the character of John Kelly, a Vietnam vet turned mercenary who takes it upon himself to avenge the rape and murder of a prostitute. Tom Hardy is thought to be Paramount's first pick for the role.
Branagh meanwhile will be directing from a script by Steve Zaillian, with Keira Knightley also in place to co-star as Ryan's wife. The film is set to open in the US on 25 December 2013, with a UK release date to be confirmed.
