First look at Melissa Benoist as Supergirl
Today Warner Bros. and CBS dropped the first images showcasing Melissa Benoist in costume as Supergirl. The Glee actress nabbed the leading role in the upcoming series earlier this year.
Shunning the bleach blonde hair and crop-top style of her comic book counterpart, this grittier version of Kara Zor-El bears a striking similarity to Henry Cavill’s Man Of Steel. Check out the two new pics below:
“In designing Supergirl, I wanted to embrace the past, but more importantly, thrust her into the street-style action hero of today,” says Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood, who crafted Supergirl’s new look.
Production on the series' pilot episode began this week, with The Flash and Arrow creator Greg Berlanti shepherding the show to the small screen alongside Ali Adler and Andrew Kreisberg.
The series picks up with Supergirl - a.k.a. Kara Zor-El/Kara Danvers - now on Earth after having escaped the destruction of Krypton.
Benoist will be joined by Calista Flockhart as Kara’s boss Cat Grant, Mehcad Brooks as reporter Jimmy Olsen, Laura Benanti as Kara’s birth mother Alura Zor-El, Chyler Leigh as Kara’s cousin Alex Danvers and Jeremy Jordan as Winslow Schott.
