First synopsis for Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes has released a first official synopsis online, outlining how the new film will follow on from the events of the original.

Last we saw, humankind was about to fall prey to a lethal ape-borne pandemic, while chief ape Caesar was showing off his evolutionary abilities by speaking in the human tongue.

"A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier," begins the official blurb.

"They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth's dominant species."

Meanwhile, some new casting additions have been confirmed with Toby Kebbell and Enrique Murciano the latest names to join the growing ensemble.

Directed by Matt Reeves and co-starring Andy Serkis, Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke and Keri Russell, Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes will open in the UK on 23 May 2014.
