First teaser poster for Django Unchained
And it's every bit as cool as you'd expect
Django Unchained has released a first teaser poster, featuring a pair of silhouetted figures against the backdrop of a blood red sky. Right off the bat, you can tell we're dealing with the stylised imagination of Quentin Tarantino...
The new poster shows a broken chain leading down to a pair of gun-wielding figures, both of whom are striding purposefully towards the camera. Looks like there's revenge afoot.
We'd say it's safe to assume those two are supposed to represent Django himself (Jamie Foxx), alongside his mentor, the former dentist turned bounty hunter, Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz).
The film will tell the story of freed slave Django, who learns the skills of a gunslinger from the aforementioned Schultz in order to liberate his wife (Kerry Washington) from the clutches of Leonardo DiCaprio's evil plantation owner, Calvin Candie.
Co-starring the likes of Kurt Russell, Samuel L Jackson, Sacha Baron Cohen and Don Johnson, Django Unchained will open on Boxing Day in the US, with UK audiences having to wait until 18 January 2013. As late Christmas presents go, this one should be a belter...
And here's the official synopsis, in case you're interested:
" Set in the South two years before the Civil War, DJANGO UNCHAINED stars Academy Award®-winner Jamie Foxx as Django, a slave whose brutal history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Academy Award®-winner Christoph Waltz). Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. The unorthodox Schultz acquires Django with a promise to free him upon the capture of the Brittles – dead or alive.
" Success leads Schultz to free Django, though the two men choose not to go their separate ways. Instead, Schultz seeks out the South’s most wanted criminals with Django by his side. Honing vital hunting skills, Django remains focused on one goal: finding and rescuing Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), the wife he lost to the slave trade long ago.
" Django and Schultz’s search ultimately leads them to Calvin Candie (Academy Award®-nominee Leonardo DiCaprio), the proprietor of “Candyland,” an infamous plantation where slaves are groomed by trainer Ace Woody (Kurt Russell) to battle each other for sport. Exploring the compound under false pretenses, Django and Schultz arouse the suspicion of Stephen (Academy Award®-nominee Samuel L. Jackson), Candie’s trusted house slave. Their moves are marked, and a treacherous organization closes in on them. If Django and Schultz are to escape with Broomhilda, they must choose between independence and solidarity, between sacrifice and survival…
" Written and directed by Academy Award®-winner Quentin Tarantino, DJANGO UNCHAINED is produced by Stacey Sher, Pilar Savone and Reginald Hudlin. The executive producers are Harvey and Bob Weinstein, Michael Shamberg, Shannon McIntosh, and James Skotchdopole. DJANGO UNCHAINED will be released in the U.S. on 25 December 2012, and internationally by Sony Pictures Releasing International. "
