Further X-Men spin-offs could be in the works
Mystique and Gambit could get solo films
Lauren Schuler Donner has been producer on the X-Men series for many years now, and has been discussing the possibility of future spin-offs for some of the mutants currently out of the spotlight.
“There was a regime [ at the studio ] that didn’t see the worth in [ spin-offs ],” says Schuler Donner, “and the current people who run Fox understand, embrace it, and we’re going to do right by it.”
“I’d like to do Gambit,” she continues, before mentioning Channing Tatum as a prime candidate for the role. “I’d like to do Deadpool. We’ll see. There’s a lot of really great characters.”
Meanwhile, fellow producer Simon Kinberg is keen on a Mystique spin-off, particularly in the wake of Jennifer Lawrence’s take on the character.
“I love what Jen Lawrence has done with her,” says Kinberg, “and I feel like because she is in such a crowded ensemble, there’s so much more opportunity if you were to follow her solo.”
We’d certainly sign up for that. In the meantime, X-Men: Days Of Future Past opens in the UK on 22 May 2014.
