Game Of Thrones season five will use flashbacks for the first time
Showrunners had previously steered clear
While Game Of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss usually like to guard their pre-season secrets fairly closely, the pair have revealed one detail about the show’s fifth year: it will contain flashbacks.
While Benioff and Weiss had previously made a point of avoiding the device, the latest season will see them break their own rule, as the show’s narrative begins to become ever more fragmented.
“By making the first season, we set a rule,” explained the duo. “No prophecies, dreams or flashbacks. We failed the first two and this season the third. So yes, this season will finally have flashbacks.”
Meanwhile, Entertainment Weekly goes on to reveal that the new season will kick off with one such flashback, although the report doesn’t go into details as to what it might entail.
Feel free to speculate away in the comments. Game Of Thrones is currently shooting in Seville, with the new season set to air on HBO in the spring.
