Iconic JRPG dev behind Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny Remastered says the new Hell difficulty is so hard that even he hasn't beaten it yet

The developers behind the remaster of iconic Japanese action game Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny have explained how the game's new 'Hell' difficulty will work.

Speaking during the Future Games Show Spring showcase, director Motohide Eshiro says that Hell mode is exactly what it sounds like. "Hell is an extremely hard difficulty mode. All it takes from any enemy and you'll die instantly. So it's not for the faint of heart."

Hell mode is so difficult, in fact, that Eshiro says that even he hasn't been able to complete it himself, though he says that some members of the development staff have been able to achieve the impressive feat.

Eshiro also spoke in more detail about the remaster as a whole. The original game was the first time he was put in charge as director, "so it has a special place" in his heart. There are still plenty of changes to experience, however, from HD graphics, quality-of-life improvements and more, which he says makes Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny Remastered an excellent place to jump into the series.

Whether you're a newcomer or an Onimusha veteran, you won't have very long to wait until you can try out Samurai's Destiny Remastered for yourself, as the game is currently set to release across PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC in just a handful of weeks, on May 23.
