Sail, scavenge, and rebuild to help humanity endure in The Last Caretaker, a survival shooter coming launching in Early Access on PC this summer
A new trailer at the Future Games Show Spring Showcase promises connection, exploration, caretaking, and resilience
The Last Caretaker is a first-person survival shooter about sailing, scavenging, and rebuilding to ensure humanity survives, and its trailer at the Future Games Show Spring Showcase immediately has me hooked.
The trailer starts with a voiceover: "There was no guide for what we had to do, no manual for leaving a world behind, but even we knew we couldn't take everything with us. I left behind my greatest creation – a guardian, a caretaker."

That very creation would be you. The world, as you know, is covered with a vast ocean and littered with what humanity has left behind. As such, it's your job to navigate the blue to scavenge lost knowledge, reactivate dormant systems, and ensure humanity's final remnants survive. That means going deep into the Seed Vaults to find the remaining human embryos. Be warned, though – you're not the only machine that's been left behind.
The story influences various facets of gameplay as you scavenge resources to repair critical systems, upgrade yourself, and craft the necessary tools to maintain your operational capabilities. All of that will aid you in exploring further to gain even more resources and discover some neat lore while taking in some good views.
Of course, there are plenty of rogue machines, biomechanical threats, and unknown forces to contend with, too, which will require some handy aim with a gun and a caretaker strong enough to deal with the load. While plenty of survival games offer chill and calm, some serious stakes are here to contend with.
Sound good? The Last Caretaker is due to release in Early Access across Steam and the Epic Games Store this summer. A console release is planned for a later date.
