GamesRadar's alternative 2007 hit list

Our hot and alternative PS3 tips for 2007...

Afrika
Publisher: Sony • Developer: Rhino Studios • Formats: PS3 • Out: Late 2007

Whether this is going to be an on-rails snap-happy safari or a free-roaming photo opportunity isn't clear, but everything we've seen of this intriguing title so far has succeeded in making us smile. Beautiful landscapes, dramatic sunsets, hippos wallowing in mud, hyenas scoffing from a carcass, cute baby elephants - who could not be looking forward to this calming sensory expedition? 'Relaxation' is a neglected genre, in our opinion.

The Club
Publisher: Sega • Developer: Bizarre Creations • Formats: PS3, 360 • Out: 2007

Score attack shooters are a rare breed nowadays, which is why we're irritatingly excited about this homage to all things bullet-based from Project Gotham Racing developer Bizarre Creations. Based around an illegal underground entity, it's been promised that The Club will cough up slugs at an even more relentless rate than noisy PS2 shooter Black and will deliver a delectable display of criminally stylish kills. We can't wait to start racking up the points.

Clive Barker's Jericho
Publisher: Codemasters • Developer: Mercury Steam • Formats: PS3, 360, PC • Out: 2007

Barker's imagination is overflowing with the dark, the twisted and the nasty, so we expect this horror shooter to be every bit as stomach-churningly shocking as a guided tour of CB's brain. Or Weston-Super-Mare.

Eye of Judgement
Publisher: Sony • Developer: Sony • Formats: PS3 • Out: Late 2007

Uses the next-gen EyeToy like an enchanted electronic pump to inflate fantasy battle cards with an extra dimension of life on-screen - if the game's as good as the gimmick then this could be an absolute monster.

Haze
Publisher: Ubisoft • Developer: Free Radical • Formats: PS3, 360, PC • Out: 2007

Glorious visuals, intriguing plot, solo, co-op and online skirmishes... it may be early days but this bio-enhanced sci-fi shooter from the people that brought us TimeSplitters already shimmers with great potential.

Skate
Publisher: EA • Developer: EA • Formats: PS3, 360 • Out: 2007

At last, a serious rival to the long running Tony Hawk's series and - hopefully - an alternative take on how virtual 'boarding should be done. We're hoping this will rekindle our interest in the daily grind.

I don't have the energy to really hate anything properly. Most things I think are OK or inoffensively average. I do love quite a lot of stuff as well, though.
