The Truman Show and Gattaca director Andrew Niccol to make new high concept SF film about a future in which time is currency
With The Truman Show and Gattaca , director Andrew Niccol proved he is no stranger to high concept SF that uses big ideas to explore human issues, and his next project seems to be in the same vein.
I’m.mortal (see what they did there) is an SF thriller set in a future where scientists have discovered how to turn off the ageing gene, and as a consequence, time has become the new currency. The rich can liove forever, and everyone else is forced to scrabble around saving enough time to let them live a long as possible. The film’s main character receives a fortune in time, but not soon enough to save his mother from dying, and ends up on the run from a corrupt police force known as “time keepers.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter ’s Heat Vision Blog , the film will have a Logan’s Run feel, and could be Niccol’s most commercial project yet (though Truman Show was pretty commercial, wasn’t it?). Niccol is also scripting the film.
