Gears of War 4 is a big investment for Microsoft-owned developer The Coalition. It's the return of a hugely-popular series on a new system, with new characters, a new threat, and a new composer in Ramin Djawadi.
Game of Thrones fans ought to recognize the name, as should those who grooved along to the Pacific Rim, Iron Man, and Warcraft movie soundtracks. Personally, I'm also a big fan of his theme for the Fright Night remake.
"Obviously, I wanted to make it very different from Game of Thrones," Djawadi told the Associated Press. "Whenever I approach a new project, I want to make sure I'm setting up a new sound - even through we're still using a lot of orchestra and percussion. … There are some really nice scenes that are probably unexpected for Gears, where we're really pushing the emotional undertones with strings".
Sounds good to me. Now let's celebrate the news with a sing-a-long of the Game of Thrones theme. Dun dun du-du-dun dun du-du-dun dun du-du-dun dun!
