Gina Carano joins the cast of Deadpool
Fox’s upcoming mutant pic, Deadpool, has landed a new cast member in the shape of former MMA fighter Gina Carano.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Carano is slated to play Angel Dust in the X-Men spinoff. At this time the specifics of her role are unknown except that in the comics the character is a part of an underground mutant group called the Morlocks.
The Haywire actress will join leading man Ryan Reynolds, who’s locked in to once again play the titular merc with a mouth. Also on board are Silicon Valley’s T.J. Miller as the comedy sidekick, with Game Of Thrones’ Ed Skrein reportedly in the running for a villainous role.
After his live-action debut in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Deadpool (aka Wade Wilson) garnered a cult following for his wise-crackin’ attitude and comedic barbs. When leaked footage of director Tim Miller’s shelved solo outing hit the web Fox promptly gave the movie the greenlight.
Penned by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, Deadpool is expected to hit cinemas on February 12, 2016.
