Sir Anthony Hopkins will receive the Cecil B DeMille award for lifetime achievement at the 2006 Golden Globes ceremony. The Welsh star, who is currently shooting Emilio Estevez’s assassination flick Bobby (Who isn’t?), was announced as the recipient at the Beverley Hilton Hotel yesterday by Globes guest speaker Geena Davis.
Davis was a little croaky due to a nasty bout of laryngitis so Hollywood Foreign Press Association President Philip Berk read the speech Davis had prepared, hailing Hopkins for his diversity in portraying everything from “captain to king, monster to angel, head-case to hero.”
Sir Tony has been nominated six times for a Golden Globe: Nixon, The Remains Of The Day, The Silence Of The Lambs and Magic snagged him Best Actor noms, while his turn in Amistad garnered him a Best Supporting Actor nod; he also made the final cut for Best Actor in a Mini-Series or TV Movie for his performance in The Tenth Man, a made-for-TV movie.
The Globes ceremony will be aired live on 16 January 2006.
