Golden Joystick Awards 2010: the full list of winners

Online Game of the Year, in association with CVG

Winner: League of Legends
First runner-up: Aion: The Tower of Eternity
Second runner-up: Farmville

We say: Clearly, the winner of the Online Game of the Year category is in a league of its own.

Strategy Game of the Year, in association with PC Gamer

Winner: Plants vs. Zombies
First runner-up: The Sims 3
Second runner-up: Age of Empires III: Complete Collection

We say: Ooh, another win for PopCap's Plants vs. Zombies. That means they have two Golden Joysticks. If we had two Golden Joysticks we would melt them down and make one double-size Golden Joystick. It would be the mother of all doorstops, mighty enough even to hold back one of those hydraulically closing doors that slam with the power of Thor's hammer.

Shooter of the Year, in association with ITN Game On

Winner: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
First runner-up: Battlefield: Bad Company 2
Second runner-up: Left 4 Dead 2

We say: Activision's juggernaut shooter has the power of 20 nuclear steroid bears. When Call of Duty is coming, other games crap their pants and hide until it is safe to come out again.

UK Developer of the Year, in association with Edge

Winner: Jagex
First runner-up: Rockstar North
Second runner-up: Codemasters

We say: That's two years in a row for Jagex, so *somebody* must be voting for them. We can't help but wonder how the bloody hell Rocksteady Studios - who made Arkham Asylum - didn't even make it into the top three. Very literally, WTF!? In case you're wondering, Jagex make a variety of online and iPhone games. According to the Guinness World Records, their free-to-play MMO Rune Scape is the most popular free-to-play MMO in the World.

One To Watch, in association with MSN

Winner: Call of Duty: Black Ops
First runner-up: Fallout: New Vegas
Second runner-up: Star Wars: The Old Republic

We say: Gamers are looking forward to Call of Duty: Black Ops the most. In other news, the Moon wins a lifetime achievement award for its outstanding service to night time.

Ultimate Game of the Year, in association with GamesMaster

Winner: Mass Effect 2
First runner-up: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Second runner-up: Assassin's Creed 2

We say: Wow. A lot of number 2s in there. But Mass Effect is the best number 2 of them all. It has won. It is this year's mega champion of the Golden Joystick Awards. All your base are belong to Mass Effect 2. Well done BioWare. Well done EA. Well done everyone that took part by voting.

And that's that. The Golden Joystick Awards done for another year. Do you think the games that deserved to win got the honours? Or do you feel that any huge injustices have been committed? Let us know in the comments.
