Ever since Call of Duty: Black Ops was released early this month in the UK, it has been at the top of the sales charts every week. That changed last week dueto Gran Turismo 5.
The launch of GT5became the sixth biggest in the history of the PS3 in the UK. That's not exactly huge news, but it did finally topple over Black Ops, which had been the consistently highest-selling game on the platform since its release several weeks ago.
According to the sales data, from GfK Chart-Track, GT5's opening week salesare a 6% increaseover Gran Turismo 4, a definite sign that interest in the franchise is still very high.
Gran Turismo 5 was first announced in 2005. It was originally scheduled for release in 2009, then pushed back to 2010, and finally given a solid, confirmed release date in early November worldwide. That, too, was pushed back. But the game did finally come out last week in the US and UK, and apparently all the delays didn't wear off the hype.
