A Sony Computer Entertainment spokesperson has confirmed to Joystiq that a Gran Turismo feature film is "being made". While the Sony rep wouldn’t provide any further comment, the confirmation came in response to an article posted earlier this week by Hollywood blog The Wrap, which claimed that The Social Network and Fifty Shades of Grey co-producers Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti are attached to the project.
Gran Turismo is Sony's best-selling PlayStation franchise to date with unit sales of 70 million. The original Gran Turismo launched in Japan in December 1997 and Gran Turismo 6 is set for release this holiday on PS3. Series creator and Polyphony Digital boss Kazunori Yamauchi has also said that a PS4 version may be on the cards.
DreamWorks is currently making a big-screen adaptation of EA racing franchise Need for Speed starring Aaron Paul of Breaking Bad fame, while Sony and Insomniac announced a Ratchet & Clank film in April.
