Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 gets an awesome title

The sequel to last year's Guardians Of The Galaxy has received an official title. as revealed. During an interview with the folks over at Collider, Marvel's creative head Kevin Feige let slip that the sophomore outing for the rag-tag crew is called.... Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2.

Shortly after, director James Gunn hopped onto social media to throw in his two cents on the matter:

Over on Facebook, Gunn offered more details on the decision to opt for a numerical title. "Yeah, I came up with a LOT of titles for Vol. 2," he writes. "But because Guardians of the Galaxy is already so wordy, it seemed strange to add another bunch of words after it. I liked Vol. 2 the best, so that's what I stuck on the cover of the screenplay - and, fortunately, the guys liked it."

The title may raise a smile for fans of the intergalactic crew, and in particular their self-appointed captain. Throughout the first movie Star-Lord, aka Peter Quill, is rarely without his beloved Walkman. At the film's end he finally opens that gift from his mother which is Awesome Mix Vol. 1. Now we know the title, expect more musical blasts from the past in the sequel.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 enters production in February 2016 and opens on May 5, 2017.
