Guardians of the Galaxy 2 promo reveals first clear look at Kurt Russell's Ego the Living Planet

I wasn’t in Hall H during last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, so I didn’t see Marvel’s exclusive presentation of footage from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Therefore, the only way I know what Kurt Russell’s character looks like is because of this image of a toy version of him. But we finally have our first clear look at the character thanks to a promo photo making the rounds today on sites like ComicBookMovie.com, and Russell looks incredible:

You’ll probably recall that Russell is playing Star-Lord’s father, a character named Ego the Living Planet. As his name indicates, he’s a planet who can take human form (I assume the movie will humorously attempt to explain to us how such a thing can be possible), and now we see that he dresses like a dashing space pirate. Get a load of that cape! And that beard! I totally see where Star-Lord gets his sense of style.

Chris Pratt will be appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live tomorrow night to unveil a new Guardians 2 trailer, so perhaps that will give those of us who couldn’t make it to Comic-Con our first look at Ego in action. So far, the trailers have all focused on reintroducing us to the Guardians themselves, but soon they’ll need to start hinting at the actual plot of this movie, and that’s presumably where Ego will come in.

Directed by James Gunn and starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Michael Rooker, Kurt Russell, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will hit UK cinemas on April 28, 2017 and open in US theatres on May 5, 2017.
