Guillermo del Toro plans Secret Garden adaptation
He’ll be on producing duties
Guillermo del Toro has added yet another project to his already busy schedule, with the Mexican auteur set to produce an adaptation of The Secret Garden .
Published in 1911 by Frances Hodgson Burnett, the novel tells the story of a sullen ten-year-old girl, struggling to adapt to life in England having been relocated from India to her uncle’s country estate.
However, things get a whole lot more exciting when she discovers a mysterious garden, in which nobody appears to have set foot in years. And as is often the way with such discoveries, there are further secrets to be uncovered along the way.
Del Toro isn’t set to be directing this one, but he has managed to secure Beasts Of The Southern Wild screenwriter Lucy Alibar to write the script, while his Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark collaborator Mark Johnson will help with production.
All in all, we’d say the material is a good fit for del Toro, who can never seem to resist a quasi-supernatural tale from a child's perspective.
Guillermo del Toro's next directing project, Pacific Rim , opens in the UK on 12 July 2013.
