Harrison Ford talks Cowboys & Aliens
Plus a new image of Daniel Craig arrives
Harrison Ford, yes him of Han Solo and Indiana Jones fame, has spoken out about sci-fi western Cowboys & Aliens , and a new image of Daniel Craig and Olivia Wilde has landed online.
Jon Favreau’s high concept mash-up is being released at the height of summer blockbuster season, so it makes sense that the promotion for the film is starting to gear up a notch.
Firstly, MTV has revealed a new ‘preview’ image (above) of Daniel Craig and his shiny wrist gadget, with the lovely (and barely visible) Olivia Wilde standing behind him.
Plus, in a conversation with the L.A. Times , legendary actor (and professional grumpus) Harrison Ford talks about his experience making the film, and how great it is to work with Favreau:
“It’s been really gratifying, I have to say,” Ford said. “A lot of that is because of Jon, who has surprised me with his spirit and his insight, and I only say that I was surprised because I knew him better as an actor than as a filmmaker.
"He’s a very clever actor but as a director he’s shown that he can solve the problems that come up every day and not become mechanical.”
When talking about the look and feel of Cowboys & Aliens , Ford contrasts the film with other summer blockbusters, saying:
“I think what a lot of action movies lose these days, especially the ones that deal with fantasy, is you stop caring at some point because you’ve lost human scale."
He went on to add: “With the CGI, suddenly there’s a thousand enemies instead of six – the army goes off into the horizon. You don’t need that. The audience loses its relationship with the threat on the screen.
"That’s something that’s consistently happening and it makes these movies like video games and that’s a soulless enterprise. It’s all kinetics without emotion. I don’t have time for that.”
Well said, that man.
Cowboys & Aliens is released on July 29 in the US, and on August 12 in the UK.
