Hathaway and Sturgess unite for One Day
An Education director takes the helm...
While doing the rounds promoting Diary Of A Wimpy Kid (which stars our new favourite screen munchkin Chloe Moretz) producer Nina Jacobson discussed the status of her next film One Day .
The romantic comedy has apparently bagged Danish director Lone Scherfig, who made waves last year with the fantastic An Education – memorable not only for Carey Mulligan’s star-making turn, but also Scherfig’s eye for period British detail.
Anne Hathaway and our very own Jim Sturgess are apparently also in negotiations to star.
“That is supposed to go this summer in London with Lone Scherfig directing and Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess,” said Jacobson. “Their deals are being negotiated right now.”
Based on the book by David Nicholls, who wrote Starter For Ten , the film would feature Hathaway and Sturgess as Emma and Dexter, two students who have a one night stand in 1988 (more period for Scherfig). They then reunite for one day every year over the next 20 years.
The book’s been compared to Nick Hornby’s writing style, which makes an obvious through-line to Scherfig. And if the latter can deliver as much easy-breezy charm as she did with An Education , this could be another slam dunk for the director.
