Henry Cavill says his Superman is true to the comics

Henry Cavill is making some pretty bold statements concerning his take on Superman's Earthly persona in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. In an interview with inSing, he says that his version of Clark Kent is, like, THE Clark Kent. “It’s more the Clark Kent from the comic books as opposed to the Richard Donner, Christopher Reeve version of Clark Kent," he says. "While that character is very much beloved, I feel that this Clark is more in line with that - he's is a journalist. He’s a reporter. There’s less of that light touch, less of that comedic touch to his performance or his presentation to the world. For Clark, there are very serious issues. "

"Certainly, in this movie, as a reporter he’s trying to get Perry to say, ‘Look, this Batman guy is a bad guy! Let me tell the story about him!’ He’s trying to use his position as a reporter to make things better without having to resort to the cape. It’s interesting to see. There’s a more serious tone. There’s more presence of a place of importance as a journalist.” Check out the interview below:

Making Clark more serious is certainly one way to pay homage to his comic book heritage. It separates him from Reeve's version of the character, who exists in a cinematic world that's about as far away from the melodramatic darkness of Zack Snyder's as you can get.

It also might be part of his attempt to rectify the damage caused at the end of Man Of Steel, by adopting a "why destroy cities with my laser eyes... when I can destroy things WITH WORDS!" attitude. That brings into question another matter: where Supes gets his journalistic experience. Or is that just another of his many skills, along with the ability to forge multiple fake identities?

Directed by Zack Snyder and starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Diane Lane, Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Laurence Fishburne, and Amy Adams, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will arrive in UK and US cinemas on March 25, 2016.
