Here's what happened in the new Star Wars: Rogue One trailer (if you want to know)

The Rogue One panel at Star Wars Celebration Europe revealed a whole host of exciting new details about the franchise’s first standalone movie, but the main thing everyone was waiting for was the new trailer. Unless you were lucky enough to be in the talk at the time you won’t have seen it, but thankfully your trusty GR+ buddy was and she tried her best to remember every force-tastic detail. What follows is just that; every moment that gave me chills, every line that made me gasp, every detail I can remember.

Now, given that the new trailer will no doubt be released online soon(ish), I wouldn’t blame you if you wanted to wait to see it in all it’s glory instead of reading this, but for the rest of you who just can’t wait (there is an important character cameo!)… enjoy.

The trailer begins with a young Jyn Erso running, which is very reminiscent of the scenes we’ve seen of the young Rey in The Force Awakens. Thankfully though, the team have decided that the young Jyn doesn’t need the exact same hairstyle as her older counterpart (like they did with Rey), and we watch this scruffy-looking kid run until we see the grown-up Jyn Erso also running and realise that they’re the same person.

The beginning shots show various scenes of battles and the Empire’s reign of terror, and are accompanied by a voiceover which says: “There isn’t a lot of time. Every day we get weaker, while they get stronger. This is our chance... to make a real difference.” We then see Jyn and realise that she’s the one speaking. She seems to be giving a pep talk to her team before that all important mission and then we see even more scenes of new planets, new ships, new Deathtroppers, the Death Star... and then the trailer cuts.

The final shot is of Darth Vader. Yes, Darth Vader. You hear his breathing first. The crowd at Star War Celebration understandably goes crazy. And then you see his reflection, bathed in red light. He’s unmistakeable, standing on what I assume is the Death Star, his breathing echoing all around the hall. And BOOM. That’s the new Rogue One trailer.

Make sure you check back later to watch the new trailer in full once it’s officially released online.

Directed by Gareth Edwards and starring Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Ben Mendelsohn, Forest Whitaker, and Alan Tudyk, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is scheduled to open in UK and US cinemas on December 16, 2016.
