Hoffman set for Synechdoche
Oscar nabber lines up for Eternal Sunshine scribblers helming debut
Philip Seymour Hoffman currently occupies an enviable status among Hollywood’s hottest stars in that the Capote Oscar scooper is a people’s favourite and an ‘actor’s actor.’ Able to get his hands mucky in the rough and tumble of the summer blockbuster – M:i:III - while keeping his cred for the more discerning flicks such as the up-coming Synechdoche.
The intriguingly named project will mark the directorial debut for Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind scribe Charlie Kaufman and is also set to star Oscar nominee Michelle Williams.
The tale centres on a tormented playwright and his chequered love life and is set to start shooting next summer.
For the ill-informed, the word synecdoche is a figure of speech in which a part is substituted for a whole or a whole for a part, as in 50 head of cattle for 50 cows, or the army for a soldier!!! At least that’s what it says in the Collins dictionary…
