What does Hogwarts Legacy wand flexibility do?

Wondering what difference wand flexibility makes in Hogwarts Legacy? Don't worry - it doesn't actually change anything and is little more than a bit of flavor to make you feel involved. No matter what core, wood, or flexibility you choose, it won't do anything in the game once you start playing.

The questions of wand flexibility comes up at Ollivander's when you finally choose your own wand, with flexibility an aspect you can select. These elements are basically a lore nod, as canonically these attributes would mirror the witch or wizard through the wand choosing them. So it's more about evoking the books or films  than any impact on gameplay. You can even sync up your Pottermore account to Hogwarts Legacy if you'd like to copy over your wand and house respectively.

So, while it doesn't make the slightest bit of difference, here's the lore behind Hogwarts Legacy wand flexibility, cores, and wood types to help guide you.

Which wand flexibility is best in Hogwarts Legacy?

Wand flexibility doesn't matter at all. Flexibility options range from whippy to unyielding and are all just for narrative effect. You can choose a range of woods and, later on, even wand handles, to change how the wand looks, but all of it is cosmetic and has no effect on anything other than looks. It's similar to when you change your appearance in Hogwarts Legacy or choose your Hogwarts Legacy broomstick - all of which create no differences practically.

The Harry Potter novels and films explain that wand flexibility relates to the owner's ability to change and adapt in accordance to their wand. Similarly, wood and core types all align a wand with the person, allowing it to "choose the wizard". Dragon heartstring sounds a strong choice if you're playing a daring Gryffindor, while phoenix feather might appeal to fans of the dark arts, since that same core belonged to He Who Must Not Be Named.

While you initially get a wand at random in Hogwarts Legacy, you can change its features however you want once you have it. Check out more of our Hogwarts Legacy tips and tricks to get the most out of this magical realm.

The release of Hogwarts Legacy has been the subject of criticism and debate due to J.K. Rowling's public stance on gender identity, which continues to challenge the inclusivity at the heart of the Harry Potter community. Here is our explainer on the Hogwarts Legacy controversy.
