Hugh Jackman calls Wolverine recasting 'inevitable'

Hugh Jackman has been discussing his uncertain future as everybody’s favourite adamantium-enhanced superhero, Wolverine.

The actor (who has played the character for the past 14 years) has been pondering the day when he'll have to retire his much-loved sideburns.

Talking to IGN (via Digital Spy ), Jackman admitted that he believes that 20th Century Fox were considering casting a younger actor as Wolverine in X-Men: First Class .

"I'm sure they had the discussion," he said. "They didn't mention it to me, obviously!”

Discussing the reality of ageing in Hollywood, Jackman added: "Look, that's inevitable, man. Anyone who thinks they're indispensable in this business is fooling themselves. But I feel unbelievably blessed to have this part. I never thought in a million years I'd get to play him seven times."

That seventh time will be in Bryan Singer’s X- Men: Days Of Future Past , which the actor describes as the best installment yet in the franchise.

"Every day I walk on the set with the claws and the hair, I thank my lucky stars. I don't take any of it for granted. To think that in a second version we'd have this cast and this director, and you guys don't know the script, but I would say probably the best script of all of them, is pretty amazing. I think that's why I'm still here. I'm sure by the way, that it won't always be my decision to always be here. At some point, someone will close the door on me… [ Laughs ]"

Helmed by the original X-Men director Bryan Singer, Days O f Future Past co-stars Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy and a whole host of others, and opens in the UK on 22 May 2014.
