Hugh Jackman joins Neill Blomkamps Chappie
In line for a supporting role
Neill Blomkamp’s next sci-fi adventure, Chappie , has added some A-list talent to its ensemble, with Hugh Jackman confirming that he has signed on to join the cast.
“I am doing a role in Neill’s new film, called Chappie , which we shoot in Johannesburg,” reveals Jackman. “I’m there for a couple of weeks at the beginning of next year.”
The film will follow the story of a robot with advanced artificial intelligence, who is stolen by a group of gangsters with plans to use him for their own dastardly purposes.
Regular Blomkamp collaborator Sharlto Copley will voice the robot, with Dev Patel also having been linked to the cast. Given Jackman’s comments about only being present for a few weeks, we’d assume he’ll be taking a supporting role.
Directed by Blomkamp, and co-starring Brandon Auret and Jose Pablo Cantillo, Chappie will open in the US on 27 March 2015, with a UK release date to be confirmed.
