Hugh Jackman to host the Oscars
Wolverine will tear it up in 2009
Ladies and gentlemen… We have an Oscar host: Wolverine!
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that Hugh Jackman will be hosting the ceremony on February 22. Jackman’s an interesting choice, as it’s not often that actors are selected to host the show on their own.
Still, it’s not like he’s a newbie: Jackman has won acclaim – and awards - for his singing-and-dancing filled Tony Awards hosting stints.
Performance
Apparently, his representatives have been haggling over how much of the traditional Oscar hosting job he’ll have to do – he may even ditch the traditional opening monologue in favour of a bigger routine.
With producer Laurence Mark and director Bill Condon now in charge of the show, it looks like their plans to break away from the norm are in full swing.
We’ll keep our fingers crossed for Hugh – it’s not the easiest job in the world, as everyone from Ellen DeGeneres to Jon Stewart and (shudder) David Letterman will tell you.
Coming 2010: controversy as Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross co-host and end up prank calling Liza Minnelli with sexual stories about her weirdo ex-husband, which leads half the readership of the Daily Mail to explode in anger.
