Independence Day 2 gets a new title
Independence Day 2 is on the publicity charge, with Fox staging an official press day to tease a few new snippets of information concerning the forthcoming sequel. The headline news? Independence Day 2 has a shiny new title.
From hereon in, the sequel will officially be known as Independence Day: Resurgence, which presumably refers to the returning aliens, now fully recovered from their chastening defeat in the first film. You can check out the first animated treatment for the new moniker, below…
Director Roland Emmerich also took the opportunity to reveal a first glimpse of one of the sequel’s new vehicles, unveiling the Moon Tug via his Twitter feed. Looks like humanity has spent the intervening years building some defences against those intergalactic marauders…

Co-starring Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Maika Monroe and Liam Hemsworth, Independence Day: Resurgence will open in the UK and US on 24 June 2016.
