Independence Day 2 pushed back to 2016
Won’t actually open on Independence Day
Roland Emmerich’s long awaited sequel to Independence Day has received a brand new release date, with the film set to be shunted back to 2016.
Fox had initially planned to launch the film on 3 July 2015, but has pushed the film back by nearly a year, into a new slot on 1 July 2016.
While many would have no doubt liked to have seen the film released on Independence Day itself, Fox would seemingly rather launch on a Friday than a Monday, in order to take advantage of the holiday weekend.
Little is known about the plot of the sequel, although Emmerich had previously revealed that two versions of the film have been written, one including Will Smith’s character and one allowing for his absence.
Michael B. Jordan has also been linked to the project, which will apparently focus upon the children of the original characters. And aliens, presumably. Don’t forget the aliens…
