N.O.V.A. from Gameloft is a rock-solid first-person shooter with more than a few similarities to Bungie's famous halo franchise. The 'dual stick'style controls fit the touch-screen better than we ever imagined they could and the game is a fluid, frantic affair.
It's clearly one of iPhone's most ambitious games, with true 3D platforms to navigate, 3D rocks to shelter behind and sumptuous outdoor locations to give variety over the space station corridor segments. You could argue it's a tad generic, but the reality is that means you get exactly what you want from an FPS, just on your phone.
Above: Better 3D than we expected from the iPhone hardware
Above: You can even reposition the on-screen buttons to fit your taste
