Pajiba are reporting that Sacha Baron Cohen has been offered the lead role in 20th Century Fox’s remake of The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty .
A raft of comedy actors have been attached to the remake of Danny Kaye’s 1947 comedy since its inception in 1994, with Jim Carrey, Owen Wilson and Mike Myers all taking a pop.
Meanwhile, directors Ron Howard and Steven Spielberg once gave the property a gander with a view to directing, and various studios made a bid for the remake rights before losing them thanks to stalled productions.
Now the flick is reportedly in full swing over at Fox, with Cohen tipped to accept the role of Walter Mitty, a pulp magazine editor whose grasp on reality is tenuous at best.
Queen and Frost/Nixon scribe Peter Morgan is currently drafting his own script for the remake, which relocates Mitty as the owner of a mega-store. We imagine there will be a few moments where stock on the shelves starts talking to our ex-Bruno; maybe even a nice little musical number.
There’s no director currently attached, but with Cohen wrapped up in his role for Martin Scorsese’s adaptation of The Invention Of Hugo Cabret , there’s still time to lock some deals.
