ITV announces The National Movie Awards

Forget the Oscars - with their fancy awards being picked by a bunch of faceless film folk and invariably going to the wrong people (apart from this year - especially Marty's for The Departed; good work Academy!) - ITV's about to launch its own awards ceremony, and you won't be able to complain if your favourite film-star doesn't get a gong.

That's because you're in charge of who wins. Well, not just you, obviously. You and your mates. And some people you've never met. That's because the awards will be chosen by the public in a huge nationwide poll which is launched today.

Film fans can vote in a variety of ways; by strolling into any cinema outlet throughout the UK and picking up an official NMA voting form, or by phoning 09018 192021 to register their choices. Or, easiest of all, simply go here , and click-vote for your favourites.

It's certainly a blockbusting selection, with the family category alone asking fans to choose between Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World's End and Spider-Man 3. We like Harry Potter the best, if you're asking.

ITV's hoping to convince major Hollywood stars to make the trip to Blighty, when the ceremony is screened at the end of September.
