Jack Bauer-less 24 reboot and Prison Break event series confirmed
The Golden Age of Television is hitting its stride. Today, that is, as Fox is renewing and commissioning series left, right and center. One of the network's biggest hits, 24, is on the receiving end of a soft reboot called 24: Legacy that hails from the executive producers of the original show and plans to focus its efforts on a new hero. Bye bye, Jack Bauer.
At this stage it's only received an order for a pilot, which means the first episode will be shot and if execs think it's worthwhile, they'll pursue a full season. The story will revolve around a military hero's return to the US and the trouble that follows him back - compelling him to ask CTU for help in saving his life, and stopping what potentially could be one of the largest-scale terror attacks on American soil. One element that will remain is the format: the new series is adhering to the real-time single day structure, with split screens to tell various elements of the story.
Another of Fox's past success has also been earmarked for the revival treatment. Prison Break is poised to return as an event series with all the main cast members expected to be baking nailfiles into pound cakes. Or, you know, tattooing their bodies with blueprints. Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell are confirmed to be leading the show that's said to take place several years after the fourth season, and will address that problematic thing which happened to Miller's character.
There's no premiere dates set for either series yet. Prison Break is expected to start filming this spring, and the 24: Legacy pilot will shoot this winter.
