There are any number of reasons for actors to quit films – most of them fall under that old, convenient umbrella excuse “creative differences”.
But to depart a role because you can’t agree with your director over the way your character should choke on a cookie? Surely not!
But that’s exactly what happened with James Caan and David O Russell on the set of the director’s latest, Nailed. Given that it’s the legendarily temper-ridden David O Russell, however, you can see how such a thing might happen. Still, all is well again, as the helmer has found a replacement in the shape of James Brolin. So he can now finish shooting the tale of a woman (Jessica Biel) who tries to force the government to help pay her medical costs when she accidentally has a nail fired into her noggin.
