James Cameron talks Terminator 5
Says it should focus on the T-800
Terminator 5 might currently be without a director, but encouragingly, James Cameron is still taking an interest in the project, having revealed the advice he gave Arnold Schwarzenegger about returning to the franchise.
"I was talking to him back in fall about a new Terminator film and quietly advising on that," says Cameron. "I was trying to be as encouraging as possible. Frankly, at that time, I thought it needed to be more about him."
"I told him he should not do it until it's focused on his character," he continues. "I think there are some great stories that can be told about that character that haven't even been thought of yet."
The new Terminator film was initially set to be directed by Fast Five director Justin Lin, who had previously spoken to Cameron about a number of potential plot ideas. However, Lin has since left the project to take on the next Fast And Furious film, leaving the director's chair vacant.
At present, the film's status remains somewhat up in the air, although if it is to go ahead, it sounds likely that the spotlight will fall on Schwarzenegger once again. And if there must be another Terminator film at all, that can only be a good thing.
