James Cameron will direct The Informationist after Avatar sequels
Adapting Taylor Stevens’ 2011 novel
If recent interviews were to be believed, it had seemed unlikely that we would be announcing any new James Cameron projects for quite some time, with the director himself claiming that Avatar would be monopolising his career from here on out.
“I’m not interested in developing anything,” said Cameron earlier this year. “I’m in the Avatar business. Period. That’s it. I’m making Avatar , Avatar 2 , Avatar 3 , maybe Avatar 4 .”
However, Cameron appears to have now softened that stance with the announcement that he has procured the rights to produce and direct The Informationist , a thriller by novelist Taylor Stevens, released back in 2011.
The novel follows the exploits of Vanessa Munroe, an information specialist hired by an oil billionaire to locate his missing daughter from somewhere in Africa. However, there’s more to the mission than meets the eye, and Munroe soon finds herself up to her neck in it in a foreign land.
While Cameron will still be immersing himself in all things Pandora for the next couple of years, we’re pleased to hear that he will go back to other movies at some point down the track. In the meantime, Avatar 2 is tentatively pencilled in to open some time in 2015.
