James Mangold will direct The Gunslinger
He's heading back to the Wild West
3.10 To Yuma director James Mangold is set to direct revenge thriller, The Gunslinger .
The film is based on a script by John Hlavin, which found itself on the Black List of Hollywood's best unproduced screenplays.
The Gunslinger is described as a contemporary Western, in which a Texas ranger takes revenge on the men who killed his brother.
Mangold's last movie was glossy action caper Knight and Day , which did solid, if unspectacular, business at the box office. He made a name for himself with starry urban Western Copland , which starred an overweight Sly Stallone.
With a reputation for grabbing top-notch casts, expect the director to attract some A-list talent to The Gunslinger .
He directed Reese Witherspoon to her Oscar in 2005's Walk the Line .
