Javier Bardem in the running for The Dark Tower
As is Viggo Mortensen
Javier Bardem is currently Universal’s favourite to take on the role of Roland Deschain in their mammoth Dark Tower adaptation.
Considered something of a tired poet, Roland is the last living member of the gunslingers, a knightly order. He’s on a quest to discover the Dark Tower, the nexus of all universes.
Should Bardem be unavailable for the role, The New York Post has word that Viggo Mortensen is running a close second to take it on.
Currently being set up with Ron Howard in the director’s chair, the adaptation of Stephen King’s epic books series is suitably gargantuan in scale, with Universal planning a trilogy of films that are all linked by a TV series that will air between each film's release.
Whoever bags the part will have a lot of work ahead of them, then, though we’d be happy to see either of the current contenders sign on.
