Jean-Claude Van Damme set to join Kickboxer remake
The Kickboxer remake just got a whole lot more interesting, with THR reporting that Jean-Claude Van Damme himself is in discussions to join the cast.
The star of the original film will not however be reprising his role, but will instead be playing a new character, a kind of mentor figure to leading man, Alain Moussi.
The role had initially been earmarked for action hero Tony Jaa, only for the Thai star to drop out on account of scheduling conflicts.
The new film will follow the story of Kurt Sloan (Moussi), a skilled martial artist who journeys to Thailand in order to train as a kickboxer and avenge his brother’s death at the hands of Dave Bautista's villain.
Directed by John Stockwell and co-starring Scott Adkins and George St. Pierre, Kickboxer will begin shooting this week before arriving in cinemas at some point in 2015.
