Jessica Biel talks Hitchcock
Describes her admiration for Vera Miles
With Sacha Gervasi’s Hitchcock biopic looming on the horizon, Jessica Biel has been discussing her role as Vera Miles, and comparing modern-day Hollywood to the industry portrayed in the film.
Miles was famously worked to exhaustion by Hitchcock, who then became embittered towards the actress when her pregnancy meant she was forced to drop out of Vertigo . It’s not a theme that the film dwells for too long on, although Biel does concede that it was a much tougher industry back then.
“I don't know if I could have made it back then," Biel told The Playlist . "I feel like back then, you had to be a triple threat - acting, singing, dancing. And you had to go through all these changes in your appearance to be who they wanted you to look like.
“And the rehearsal process used to be so much bigger,” she continues. “Even when I first started out, you could rehearse for two weeks, three weeks, a month, and we don't do that anymore. Now, you're on your own, in your room, crossing your fingers, hoping you're going to get it right."
Co-starring Anthony Hopkins, Helen Mirren and Scarlett Johansson, Hitchcock will open in the UK on 8 February 2013.
