Joaquin Phoenix will star in Spike Jonze's Her
He'll play a man who falls in love with the voice of a computer
Spike Jonze and Joaquin Phoenix have been rumoured to have a collaboration in the works for some time now, and plot details have finally emerged concerning the film, which has now been titled Her .
Phoenix will star as a lonely writer who falls in love with the female voice of his computer's operating system, a technology not dissimilar to the iPhone's voice-activated helper, Siri.
" In the not so distant future, Theodore (Joaquin Phoenix), a lonely writer purchases a newly developed operating system designed to meet the user’s every needs ," says the official blurb.
" To Theodore’s surprise, a romantic relationship develops between him and his operating system. This unconventional love story blends science fiction and romance in a sweet tale that explores the nature of love and the ways that technology isolates and connects us all ."
Sounds like an intriguing proposal, and one that should consolidate Phoenix's return to the big screen after Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master . Throw in a supporting cast containing Rooney Mara, Samantha Morton, Olivia Wilde and Amy Adams, and this should definitely be considered one to watch...
