When Finn met Han Solo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, he called himself "a big deal" in the Resistance. Solo saw through our favorite Stormtrooper's act of course, but actor John Boyega says that by the time Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters, Finn really will be the thing he claimed to be.
"The funny thing is, between [Star Wars] 7 and [Star Wars] 8, Finn’s now a big deal! He is now a big deal," Boyega recently told Entertainment Weekly. "Imagine that: you get taken down by Kylo Ren. Think about what the gossip’s going to be like in the Resistance. 'Oh, that’s the guy that got slashed down by Kylo?'"
EW reports that even while just discussing this new chapter for his character, Boyega couldn't resist hamming it up a bit. As he continued his interview, he started striding, winking, waving at imaginary comrades. "'How you doing, guys? How you doing? Yeah, I was there. Then the Falcon picked me up… Oh yeah, I knew Han Solo by the way. We were pretty close.' All that kind of stuff. They have a fan moment when they see him."
Don't let the swagger fool you, though. After getting slashed by Snoke's apprentice, Finn is on a long, painful road to recovery. "Once [the lightsaber is] in, it continues to burn the skin and the cells. It’s not a piece of flame that whacks your body. It’s not something that works like a stab wound. It’s really brutal," Boyega said. "It’s a grounding injury. It’s going to take him some time to get back on the ball. But when he does, oh, he does."
Boyega also gave some insight into Rose, the new character played by Kelly Marie Tran, saying that Finn will team up with this Resistance mechanic for his own adventure while Rey is off training with Luke.
Speaking of Rey and Luke, they're looking mighty spiffy in new photos from Vanity Fair. As for when Finn will wake up and what impact he'll have on the plot... add it to our list of questions we have after watching the Last Jedi trailer.
