Johnny Depp confirmed for Wally Pfisters directorial debut
He’ll take the lead in Transcendence
Johnny Depp has officially signed on to play the lead in Wally Pfister’s directorial debut, a sci-fi movie called Transcendence .
Depp had previously been linked to the part, and this morning an official press release confirmed that the rumours are true. Rooney Mara, Emily Blunt and Rebecca Hall have all been linked to star opposite him in the female lead.
The film will follow the exploits of a husband and wife who develop a programming code for the world’s first sentient computer. When a group of technophobic protestors attempt to assassinate the husband, the wife takes the natural precaution of uploading his brain to the computer. As you do.
Happily, the sync is a success, and the computer takes on hubby’s personality, aiding his wife in her attempt to escape her pursuers. We’d have had a tenner on that computer turning evil, but it seems as though we’d have been wrong…
No specific dates have been set as yet, but the film is set to begin shooting in April ahead of a 2014 release. At the very least it promises to be a sight more interesting than seeing Depp coast through another Pirates movie…
