The Witness, designed by Braid creator Jonathan Blow, is purposefully minimalist - there are no fancy cutscenes, no narrator spelling everything out, and no enemies to fight. In other words, if you want to find out what's happening on this solitary island full of 677 puzzles and mazes, you're going to have to go hunting for audio logs. Thankfully, once you find them, you'll have Ellie from The Last of Us and Hermes from Futurama, among others, to fill you in.
Blow revealed the voice cast for The Witness via the PlayStation Blog today, stating that the crew just finished recording the final lines. The list of actors is short, but nonetheless noteworthy: Ashley Johnson (The Last of Us), Phil LaMarr (Futurama), Matthew Waterson (Fallout 4), and Terra Deva (musician and veteran of The Mickey Mouse Club).
Blow writes that even with these audio recordings - which he notes are "done in a highly non-traditional way," though what that means is anybody's guess - the story is still subtle enough that you'll need to pay close attention and read between the lines to get the full picture. We'll find out how hard his puzzles are to decipher when The Witness launches on PS4 come January 26.
