Jonathan Nolan talks The Dark Knight Rises
And cool new Bane artwork arrives
The Dark Knight Rises is just weeks away from hitting our screens, and script-writer Jonathan Nolan has taken time out to quash suggestions that with the introduction of a raft of new characters, the film will be overpopulated.
As well as Bane and Catwoman, the film will also bring John Blake (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and Miranda Tate (Marion Cotillard) into the fold, but Nolan is convinced the new additions will only enrich the saga's existing array of talent.
"Oh, I don't believe in any of that shit," said Nolan, when asked whether it could be a case of too many cooks. "Everybody is always looking for excuses as to why something worked and why something didn't work. Even The Dark Knight has three villains in it, or six, depending on how you're counting them."
"It's just a question of whether you can pull it off," he continues. "That's what it comes down to. I think a narrative is only as cluttered as you let it be. There are as many good films with half a dozen villains as there are bad ones, and I think that is a sort of facile thing to seize on as an explanation for, 'This is why this worked, and this is why this didn't work'."
So basically, we shouldn't be worried that the Nolan brothers have served up a successor to Spider-Man 3 . The Dark Knight Rises opens in the UK on 20 July 2012, and if you want to go to the premiere, there's still time to enter our Tumbler design competition here . In the meantime, you can check out a cool new piece of Bane artwork, with the big man's head painted on a Gotham manhole cover. Take a look, below...
