Joss Whedon talks Avengers 2 plot
Says there is no happy ending in sight
Joss Whedon is set to be a busy man over the next few years, what with his new role as creative “Godfather” for Marvel’s Phase 2 projects, but his foremost priority is still to deliver a satisfying sequel to The Avengers .
Work has already begun on a script for the second film, and while Whedon has been careful not to give away any specific plot points, he can at least hint at some of the themes he plans to explore in part two.
"The creation of the team is not the happy ending," he said. "It is the beginning of something that is complex and difficult, and now I get to dig a little deeper. And maybe, while I'm digging, just twist that knife. And that's exciting for me."
Yikes. Does this mean Joss is ready to kill off one of his super-team? We’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime, there’s the rest of Phase 2 to look forward to, a series of films Whedon believes to be in very safe hands.
"Very talented people are writing and directing these movies, and what I don't want to be is the guy they dread, who's going to come in and say, 'Oh, well I have the power to change this.' I'm not that."
The Avengers 2 opens in the UK on 1 May 2015.
