Joss Whedon talks casting James Spader as Ultron
"Spader was my first and only choice"
James Spader might have seemed a surprising choice for a supervillain when he was recently announced as the titular antagonist in Avengers: Age of Ultron , but Joss Whedon is adamant he was the only man for the job.
"Spader was my first and only choice," says Whedon. "He’s got that hypnotic voice that can be eerily calm and compelling, but he’s also very human and humorous."
"Ultron is not Hal. Spader can play all of the levels. He’s the guy to break The Avengers into pieces. Muwahaha."
Whether or not Spader will be called upon to do any motion-capture work remains to be seen, but judging him as a vocal performer, we're inclined to agree with Whedon's assessment. The man can certainly do menace…
Directed by Whedon and co-starring the all-star ensemble of the first film, Avengers: Age Of Ultron will open in the UK on 1 May 2015.
